This Week

pottery painting//brotherly antics//new sub shop//dreaming about an Ikea kitchen//babysitting//art journaling

This week was full of moments. We spent a lot of time together as a family. Lots of playing and eating and chatting and annoying and fighting and hugging and kissing and shopping and living.

Not a whole lot of cleaning. Just remember, that is not what life is about...

That message is for anyone who comes over to my house this next week. Life is not about cleaning.

Enjoy your weekend. Time for me to head to work.

Messy desk

Einstein: “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”

This is what my desk looks like right now.

Do you have a messy desk? Or do you like to keep your space clean and well organized?

I'm a little of both. I tend to build up on the messiness for days/weeks at a time, but just as I get to the breaking point of having only a 12x12 inch space left to create on, I tidy up.

It turns out, this is not necessarily a bad thing.

I found this post titled "Why You Should Have a Messy Desk". Hop on over and take a quick read. It sure made me feel less guilty for the messes I create!

My take home lesson: "People with a messy desk were more prone to creativity and risk taking, while people at cleaner desks tended to follow strict rules and were less likely to try new things or take risks"

I'm a risk taker, not a slob.

How about you? Do you agree with article?

30 Days of Thankful (Week 2)

Week 2:

Tuesdays with Barry (lunch with my dad)
Earth (making better choices)
Inspiration (reading magazines)
His love (my husband)
Her smile (Tater)
Friendships (sound of teen girl chatter in the home)
Happy Mail (Studio Calico monthly shipments)

Loving how simple this is, but gets me to think on a daily basis about all the little things in life that I am so grateful for.

Friday Wrap

It's the end of another week.

Time to reflect on the moments and share a few photos from the cell phone.

And linking up with Jeannette at Life Rearranged and Lauren at Lauren Elizabeth and Darci at The Good Life.

1.  Had a bit of a scare this week. Mark went to the ER for chest pains. 8 hours later, he was released with good news. No sign of a heart attack. In fact, his heart is in awesome shape. I held up well while he was at the hospital, but later that night I woke up and freaked out over the "what could have been".

And this is what happens when my family gathers and the news of no heart attack is announced. General chaos. What's that famous line? “And now," cried Max, "let the wild rumpus start!”   Yep that's us.  But I kinda love this crazy family of mine!

2.  I'm working an extra day every week in November, and some family members are missing me. Emma leaped onto the hood of my car and squished her face on my windshield. Of course I took a picture. I even asked for permission to post it on my blog. And she said sure. "Nobody reads it anyways". Oh, that girl!!!

This is the prettier version of the child on my windshield.

3.  One good thing from the "fake heart attack" (as we are calling it around here), was that we got a surprise visit from Tater. I'm pretty sure there is nothing cuter in this world than a six month old baby.

Except, a naked 6 month old baby.

Who is really into the whole nose and lip pulling thing right now.

That's it for this week. That was enough!

Thanks for stopping by. And have a fabulous weekend!

Project Life (Week 44)

Week 44 is done.

Not a lot of photos to choose from though. I find that I take tons of photos every month, but they come in spurts. So some weeks I take only 2 and then the next week I take 25. This is forcing me to find other ways to fill the slots. But in the end, I'm still happy with how the pages turns out.

And I'm still struggling with the color/design choices. I'm hoping this can be blamed on using the wrong pocket protectors, so when the supply I already have is all used up and I order ones specific for Project Life, I don't struggle so long to get everything to look just right.

Fave details this week:
that white squiggly line next to the 4.

And that fork, knife, spoon button.

And that metal camera charm.

Project Life (Weeks 39 and 42)

Week 39:

This was a hard week for me to pull together. I literally spend over an hour picking out all the cards I wanted to use. Why? Because I'm crazy like that. I loved the way the left side of my layout looked, but I couldn't find cards for the right side that mirrored the right colors. Tragic, I know! Finally, I got off my butt and pulled down the box of cards from the Sunshine and Seafoam Project Life collections and within 2 minutes all was well. Those yellow polka dot cards. Yep. They saved the day. I guess some weeks will just take a bit more time to pull together. But in the end, I love how the finished pages look.

And my favorite detail: the hippo paperclip.

Week 42:

I started this layout the same day that I did the one above. But I just didn't have it in me to fuss over matching colors and cutting everything to fit the protector pages (not the official Project Life protectors so none of the card fit properly until I cut or tape them). So I grabbed some scrapbook papers that I love and cut them to size and called it a day. The next day I added all the writing and embellishments.

Turns out, I don't really like this week. Too much color. But that's OK. The stories of the week are there. And I'm learning. Man, I'm learning. I definitely like less color. I like the photos to catch my eyes, not the gorgeous papers. And I'm going to be crazy happy when I use up my stash of protector pages and can treat myself to new ones that are the perfect size for all those Project Life cards I'm collecting.

And my favorite detail: chalkboard stickers. I just need to be patient and not smear the gel pen.
