One of the projects I made for the baby shower (more pics coming soon) was a tissue paper flower garland. It was super easy and inexpensive so I wanted to share with you.
I bought the tissue paper at a party store, so there were lots of colors to choose from. They were $1.00 per pack, with each pack making 4 flowers about 9 inches in diameter. I bought 3 packs total, one light pink, one hot pink, and one gold. Next time I would probably double the amount. If I had more, I would have hung some up in the trees too.
I started by lying open the tissue paper flat, and cutting it in half. Then I cut those sections in half again, so I was left with 4 sections per pack.
Then I rounded the corners of each section and stapled the layers together in the center. And I don't mean exact center. Since my stapler would not go that far. But the flowers turned out just fine.
Next, I took 1 layer and twisted it carefully around the staple, then scrunched up the layer a bit. Then move on to the next layer and repeat for all 8 layers.
I wrapped tape around the end, hoping this would make it easier to hang on the garland.
That's it. Now repeat a bunch of times.
That's all there was to it. The hardest part was finding a spot to stack all the flowers on the table!
Seriously easy! I have made flowers before, the ones where you fold the paper accordian style and wrap string or a pipe cleaner, then pull the layers apart slowly. They ripped, and were uneven, and just didn't look right. These did not rip once, and they looked perfect. I'm telling you, these flowers were the bomb!
I hung them up on the lattice around the pool equipment. I tried to staple them on the ribbon, but that wasn't working to well. The hubby suggested using clothes pins to clip them on. Brilliant idea! Go pick some up at the dollar store. They are handy for all kinds of things around the house.
