Farewell to the Sexy Beast
Hello to Lexi |
So true. Like when your minivan dies its last death. On the side of the road. And you can not bear to have it towed one more time.
This is what happened to my husband Sunday.
We knew it was coming. It was not a huge shock. And yet, you kinda hope that you can get some more time before you have to say goodbye.
Not that we hate saying goodbye to the 1993 Mercury Villager. We're not especially attached to her. It's just that she is paid for. And part of our plan. The money plan. The debt free plan.
So, today we bravely set out into the world of private party car purchasing. OK. We did buy the van from a private party, but we didn't have to find her. She found us. This time though, we visited Craigslist for help.
We planned on a Civic or Accord. Even went to test drive a Civic. That's where we learned that sometimes cars look better in photos than in real life. So we decided to head to Starbucks for some free Wifi, and broaden the search. And the price range. And what should appear?
A Lexus SE300. Don't get too jealous. It is a 1997 with a few miles. But we did some research and people LOVE their 1997 Lexus SE300's.
And I'm so proud because we did not cave and go to a dealership and take out a loan for a new car. And don't think that conversation didn't pop up once or twice or five times. We paid cash. Woo hoo!
And the very best thing is that my husband had a huge smile on his face the entire drive home. Because he got no respect from his friends when he drove them to lunch in his minivan. He's pretty sure Lexi will command a bit more respect.
And here's to having Lexi around for the next 18-24 months.
